5 Great Tips to Boost Your Metabolism

There are few things that you can change when it comes to the equation of losing weight...


If calories consumed equal those burned off then you’ll stay the same weight

If calories taken in are more than those burned off then you’ll gain weight, and...

If calories consumed are less than those burned off then you’ll lose weight.

We know this is a fact. BUT, here’s the biggy, there a few little known ways that you can actually sped up your metabolic rate, so that you burn through more calories every day.

Here are my top 5...

1.  Don’t leave long gaps between meals

You need to eat something every 3 to 4 hours as the process of digestion and distribution of calories actually increases your metabolic rate. Leave long gaps between meals and your metabolism will slow down.

2.  Start training your muscles

Increasing the amount of lean muscle tissue on our bodies is a great way to keep our metabolism revving high all day long. Muscle is highly metabolic, the more muscle you have, the faster you’ll burn calories. To get this effect though you'll have to start training with weights to effectively increase the amount of muscle you have.

3.  Keep your water levels up

Even a small drop in internal water levels can slow down your metabolic rate. Aim to drink at least 8 medium glasses of water a day (not the plastic water cooler ones!)


4.  Use spices in your meals

Certain spices such as cinnamon, ginger and chilli have been proven to give a quick boost to the metabolism, so it’s worth adding them where you can to brighten up your meals as well as helping you to burn off more calories.

5.  Change your favourite cuppa

If your drink of choice is standard tea, then you could very easily give yourself an easy calorie burning boost by changing to green tea instead. The catechins, caffeine and antioxidants in green tea have been proven to boost the metabolic rate quite substantially.

Whilst these are all great tips to use and well worth doing, used alone they won’t turn you in to the next supermodel. Instead you should also look at the equation above and see just exactly how you could improve what you’re currently doing.

It may be that your diets pretty good right now, so you should think about increasing the amount of exercise you do, or you might be a compulsive exerciser, always on the go, but your diet needs some attention.

Look carefully at what you currently do and see if using any of these metabolism boosting tips can help you shed a few more pounds.
